Don unloads some ground and pound, and the referee has seen enough (Takayama’s probably had enough, too), ending the fight. The body clinches return, and Takayama tries for another takedown, but just ends up pulling Frye into mount. Nothing seems to be too dangerous, so the fight continues, and they’re back to wild brawling. Don gets the mouthpiece he dropped returned to him, and Takayama gets his busted up face checked out by the ring doctor. We’re back to single collar ties, or AWESOME TIMES, then body clinches, and this continues back and forth until a brief lull allows the referee to call for a break. Takayama throws Frye down, but Don’s back to his feet pretty quickly, only taking a knee to the head on his way back up. Now knees are getting thrown in addition to face punches. Things are now AWESOME! The pace slows down to prevent both men’s punching hands from igniting, and they move to body clinches. Luckily everything has already been taped, so it's a thing that we will get to see! I fully expect this to continue until all fighters are hurt all the time and this "sport" of MMA is canceled entirely.ĭon't forget, TUF 16 premieres this Friday. Weidman should make a decent recovery to fight for the number one contender spot if there actually are any more UFC fights ever again.Īs for the constant comments about no more UFC, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Jose Aldo have both pulled out of their fights at UFC 153 due to injuries. Also included is a picture of Mark Munoz's similar elbow-chunk haul from earlier in the year. And, of course, I can't forget Urijah's vacation experience in Bali that resulted in the line " It takes more than twelve Balinese with weapons to kill the California Kid"Ĭhris Weidman had elbow surgery to remove some animal cracker chunks that somehow got lodged inside his arm, so of course he had to share the photographic evidence. Urijah is a fairly charismatic guy, and he's not a horrible person, so I'm always happy to see him do well, even if I mock his Team Alpha Male group's methods. Arm triangles in general are a good intermediate style position that require a lot of finesse and feel to get good at.Here is former WEC Featherweight champion Urijah "the California Kid" Faber on Rainn "Dwight Schrute" Wilson's van-based talk show, Metaphysical Milkshake, talking mostly about his book, or rather, his "mem-wire", The Laws of the Ring. He wasn't saying you can't use your hips to help finish the anaconda but just that the lock is created behind their shoulder with your arms and not your shoulder (as in the brabo, kata gatame, ezekiel) and that shoulder behind their shoulder is just a little easier to pull off.ĭefinitely check out Ryan Hall's arm triangles dvd for great info on all the arm triangle style chokes, both of these included. With the anaconda you basically have to be on one side (the side where your knuckles are facing the ceiling once you lock your grip.) Gambledub probably has a ton of gifs but the brabo can be finished at many more angles, and it can be finished with almost no arms power and just your shoulder behind their shoulder. You can finish the brabo from top side, top half, sitting through on either hip, from the bottom side, from bottom half, from mount, from closed guard, from knee on belly. The brabo has a ton of entries because you don't have to have a front headlock situation, plus you can also finish it with your hips or leg hooks, just like the anaconda. Has anyone besides Rafael Mendes finished an anaconda choke at ADCC or the black belt no-gi worlds, ever? With the brabo there are more than I can count. I can think of one or two anaconda chokes between gi, no-gi, and mma that have been finished at the high level within the past few years. Same reason the kimura is usually easier to enter and finish and transition from than the americana. Click to expand.Everyone will have their personal preference but if you ask most people they're going to say the brabo (darce) over the anaconda.
